The Tree “gods”
The road to Lauren’s Lighthouse Temple has not been easily paved. Torrential rains washed out initial progress, private contractors had to leave town, and most recently, tree “gods” stood in the way.
When we finally raised the extra money needed to contract with the city to build needed gutters and pave the road, work began. We soon encountered our first tree god, referred to as a “lesser god.” This is apparently the same god of the river that runs near our sister ministry, The Pearl House. The tree near LLT which hosted this god was in the path of the gutters for our road. In order to continue constructing these gutters, the tree would need to be cut down. Pastor Godly, who knows the fetish priest guarding this tree and its god, went to discuss the problem with him. The priest agreed to ceremonially move the tree god to another tree standing clear of the construction path. Afterward, city workers continued laying the gutters, but as they made their way past the stump of the cut-down tree, their machinery malfunctioned multiple times. Blaming the tree god, whom they claimed was not happy about being moved, the workers refused to continue the work. When Pastor Godly learned of this, he went to the site and spoke to the crew, telling them, “No. There is only One God, the God of the Bible. Jesus is the only true God. Your equipment needs to be fixed, so fix it and continue the work.” Because respect is high for “men of God” in Ghana, the workers fixed their equipment and resumed building the gutters, with no further incident.
A few weeks later, city leaders informed Pastor Godly that LLT needed to extend the road gutters past the wall of our campus, since the land outside the wall belonged to the church. Even though Pastor knew we owned this land, he had not claimed it, because there was a river “god” running through it (pictured below), represented by coconuts tied around a nearby tree (also pictured below). The council, however, insisted that the gutters be extended to the other side of LLT land so that everyone living around the church would know there is only one God, and that He would be glorified on this land.
The gutters are now extended, Jesus IS glorified, and lives are being changed.
Note: These “gods” are often real spiritual beings of the evil persuasion. But they tremble and flee at the name of Jesus.
